The Sambalpuri sari is made from fabric woven on a hand-loom and is popular throughout India.Varieties of the Sambalpuri sari include Sonepuri, Pasapali, Bomkai, Barpali, and Bapta saris, which are in high demand.
The name of Bomkai Saree is taken from the village name Bomkai in Ganjam District in Odisha state. The Saree is weave by traditional Ikkat or Bandha and Kapta net process. In this saree, various designs like bitter gourd (Karela), different flowers, fishes, turtles, lotus, peacock are woven. The Sarees are made from natural colours.
Some of the main people who made the saree world famous are Krutartha Acharya, Kunj Bihari Meher, Chaturbhuja Meher.
